Reclaiming overdraft charges HSBC - what to do now? Please help me with this.

Finally, I have received a response from HSBC.

They have given me an outline of the terms and conditions and state its customer responsibility to check account etc etc. And towards the end of this explanation it is stated "In view of this no refunds are due."

They haven't covered many of the points I made in my letter apart from to acknowledge my legal challenge which they have on record.

Then they say they sent me a letter instructing me to call customer services for a chat about my financial hardship case.

This is what they sent:
"I can confirm that we have sent you a letter on...to advise you to contact our Financial Guidance Team so they can fully assess your fiancnail situation and your claim to refund charges based on your financial hardship."

I thought the FSA said the banks must deal with hardship cases now? Is this how HSBC are now dealing with it? Anyone had a similar experience?

They didn't apologize or discuss why they had said no contact was made. I received a letter stating that they couldn't reach me while I had gone over my overdraft limit.

And when I checked my contact details, everything was correct and my phone was never switched off and in full reception. I was constantly by my landline and when I wasn't, my family were.

Help.

Is is worth calling them? If not, what's the next step?

  • By the way, £150.00 has been charged to my account for going over my overdraft limit by £78.00. Now they want to charge another £75.00.

    Let me explain why.

They charge £25.00 for each transaction made going over your o/d limit.

They only charge a max of £150 in one month but because this was happening at the end of the month, going into a second month, they could start charging again for the tiny transactions being made.

This was happening at the end of December, going into January. Things got a little hectic.

Letters were delayed because of the christmas and new year holidays.
