CCCS sent me somebody elses budget!

CCCS were sending me a copy of my budget to revise, I opened the letter today and was reading the figures and thought, these are all wrong, what's going on  I then looked at the name and it was for somebody else

So I have somebody's full name, CCCS reference number and all details of their incomings and outgoings. I didn't notice their address on the budget luckily.

I know CCCS do a great job but this is shocking and I shall be ringing them tomorrow to complain about this. If I have gotten somebody elses information, does that mean they have mine? I know it's just down to human error but it should have been checked, this is sensitive information.

It actually sounds like a genuine mistake. I am sure that CCCS will rectify the situation when you talk to them in the morning, hayley, and I'm equally sure that you will do your best to respect the confidentiality of the person whose details you have been sent.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Of course, i'll either send it back or shread it, i'll see what they say tomorrow. :) I just hope if my information was sent to this person, they do the same.

I'm sure it will all be sorted, I'm telling them to make them aware, so they can try and prevent this from happening again.

Maybe my original post was a bit dramatic but I was very shocked that this could happen.

Genuine or not rog, there's numerous regulations they're in breach of.

If required the OP here may well have been able to pursue a compensation claim.
Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.

All information given by myself is offered informally and without prejudice - if in doubt seek help from a qualified and insured professional

I wouldn't want to pursue a compensation claim and if that was the extent of your knowledge then you can keep it.

The reason I am going to complain is to make them aware that this has happened, so they can put something in place to stop this happening again.

I think CCCS do a brilliant job and my intention was never to get money out of them. Good god what is this world coming to?

Of course, 1810 - but since the OP has not actually posted any of the information that they sent her, then no harm seems to have been done.
Equally, the OP is respecting the confidentiality of the person concerned.

I would suggest that the OP posts the question in the 'ask a CCCS Counsellor' sticky thread:

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1231527

I am sure that CCCS are just as concerned as us about any possible breach of regulations and will want to thoroughly investigate the matter.

Just to show that there is no misunderstanding, 1810 - had the OP posted that she had received someone else's personal/financial information from a DCA or a pursuant creditor, then I would be 100% in agreement with you.

Yeah so would I! :D I wouldn't think twice of trying to get some money out of a DCA or a creditor. But CCCS are the good guys :)

I'm aware of a case with very similar circumstances where the member made the organisation known what had taken place, the organisation took out an injunction against the member to prevent them disclosing / discussing the details, even tho no personal details had been published.

I offered to help the OP, no problem tho, nothing lost.

  • I'm sure this is just an innocent mistake. CCCS have just had clearance from their Trustees to recruit another 50 staff, their premises in Leeds are full so they re looking around for a new building. Last year they had 655 people, they now have 710.

It is in my view an error, I have just applied for a job there and they are very professional. The waiting times on thehelplines show just how busy they are.

I'm sure they will be gutted to hear of this occurence.
  • Yeah, I agree...it's just an innocent mistake...Like the rest of us, they are only human and human's make mistakes.

I'd just politely point it out to them and leave it at that. They are a charity helping loads of people (me included!) and I don't particularly want to have to start paying more on a monthly basis to cover legal or compensation costs if this went to court if they started charging fees to compensate for it.
