Lidl - Refund Policy - Watch out!!

Just came home from weekly Lidl shop gobmacked! Took back 2 pairs of kids shoes bought on Monday that were the wrong size. I asked the assistant - if he could just take the refund amount off of shopping or whatever was easiest. He called a supervisor who in turn called the manager  He came up and said ' who said you could do this' I presumed he meant return item.. I explained for third time they were wrong size and there were no others left - i had the receipt. No who said you could have the refund off your shopping he retorts. I said just whatever is easiest not bothered - cash back or take off shopping. By this point my hubby and I were laughing - three men all round the till trying to do this refund. He said well I will take it off this time but it is not policy. We were totally confused as we had already mentioned to them all, we were not bothered how we got the money back. He asked the assistant to start putting through our shopping, then stopped when it got to £5.84. Right thats fine he said. I had seen the total on display so asked about the remainder - 14p. You just lose that the manager said. My hubby and I said no we wanted it back, he was raging by this point and said ' you want it back!' - well it is our money - he took it out of his pocket and gave it to us - there is your 14p he said then stormed off in a huff!!! Needless to say we asked for his name and have now a lodged complaint with Lidl Head office - I know it is only 14p but on priciple alone - would Lidl have allowed us to walk out of the store owing them 14p - I think not!

So watch out when retunring goods to Lidl - If I hadn't notoced the total they would not have said a word to us.

I dont know Lidls return policy but maybe they dont do refunds?

Maybe that is why they were a bit peeved with you?

They do not have to give you a refund just because you purchased the wrong size. Maybe they just did it out of goodwill?

Not sure about the 14p though :D

    Taken off Lidl's website:

    Refund Policy

Any items proven faulty and returned with a receipt will be refunded. Items deemed unsuitable will only be refunded if in a saleworthy condition and with an associated receipt and are at the absolute discretion of the Store Manager.

Seems like their store managers hold all the cards !!!
  • When I have bought footware for the children I have always asked at the checkout if I can return them if they are the wrong size. This makes it a conditon of the sale.

The Lidl staff have always said that I could, and on the two or so occasions that I have retuned them, there has not been a probem.

Looks like you have been unlucky with the manager in your store.

We have got several refunds from Lidl without problem ... maybe offsetting the amount against your shopping was confusing them :D If they had have tried the 14p trick with me I would have taken one of the laces out of the shoes and told the manager that we would call it quits.

I don't know about you but I always feel uncomfortable if I want a refund in a shop like this......because I presume you have to enter the shop proper and walk round to the tills with your product in hand and ask for a refund. And this OP did their shop before going to the till. So what is to stop you just picking up the same item and saying it is your returned item?

I know it is their design therefore their fault, but it always makes me feel uncomfortable because how can I prove that the item is already mine? and I'm aasking for a refund, and if I don't get one how can I leave the shop with my proerty if they say I have just picked it up?

Sounds like the manager was having a bad day! It should have been the store that was going to be out of pocket by 14p not the customer!

Yep that was difenately the case. The first thing I did when entering the shop was tell an assistant I was returning the shoes ( had the receipt etc with me), and there were no other pairs left, but it is a strange way of returning thing. My hubby and I had a good laugh at them , which probably upset him all the more, but we could not believe the way he was acting. I thought by having the refund price off of my shopping was easier for them - I will know next time! My hubby chirped in ' I'll bring my lawyer next time i shop here'

But looking at their policy above taken from their website they didn't have to give you a refund. So, no point you taking along your lawyer.

Unless it was for the 14p thing which I still dont get :rotfl:
