I have a high prescription and used to visit Rayners for my glasses & contact lenses. However, I have since had a major falling out with Rayners as they were trying to charge me £25 for a contact lens check up, which I have refused to pay.
Obviously now I need to find a new optician and am wondering what other peoples experiences have bee with Specsavers.

Not good I'm afraid. I had very poor treatment from one of their staff on one occasion, and ended up walking out. After an apology from the Manager (following my complaint) the next time I went back, to a different branch of Specsavers. This time I took my prescription in from Boots Opticians and the glasses they gave me, I could not use.0

As a regular customer of Specsavers I always ask for and usually get, discount.0

In my experience its very much dependant on the branch so probably best to try and get some local feedback if possible. Their glasses are very good value and they have good deals quite often. My local branch now seem to be very good and lots of family and friends recommend them
I have had good and exceptionally bad experiences at different branches (not just from a customer service point of view but also professional advice on vision problems) I now use a local independant optician for both myself and for filling my sons hospital prescription. It is a bit more expensive but gives me peace of mind.

Have you thought of using Boots? Im tempted to go to specsavers but Ive heard so many poor opinions about their service.0

I went there a few years ago for a trial for soft contact lenses - the girl who examined my eyes was very young and clearly inexperienced, she told me I had lumps or growths on my eyes and I should go to the eye hospital. I was in a panic. I went to my normal contact lens practioner (where I get my GP lenses) for a second opinion and he said my eyes were perfectly normal and healthy. Not impressed.0

It is new contact lenses I need. My glasses are fine, haven't had them very long to be honest.0

What's the problem with asking you to pay for a professional service? Unless it was supposed to be included as part of a scheme of course.Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.

bloody useless in my opinion. I went there 7 months ago for my eye test, ordered 2 pairs of glasses (readers and distance) and recieved 2 pairs of readers. Had to send one back to have my distance prescription put in and guess what? They came back with a + prescription instead of a -! Sent them back again and they came back tinted! Long story short I still don't have my distance glasses from them, I got my distance prescription and ordered a pair online.
ETA I had a contact lens check there but didn't get on with focus dailies, they recommended night and day lenses but refused to give me a trial, they expected me to pay almost £60 for a 3 months supply of lenses that they couldn't even guarantee i would get on with.0 -
I've used them for years now, never had a problem, now use contact lenses, no bother there either.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
