Hi
Can anyone please tell me if travel insurance covers any damage to the hotels property, i have just returned from holiday where my girlfriend slipped walking over a tiled floor in our room and whilst falling she pulled over a table and damaged the TV, The hotel said we had to pay for the tv or they would call the police and report us for criminal damage, but as we was in the dom rep and hardly anyone could speak in english to us and neither of us wanted any trouble i just paid for the damages, now back in England where i dont have to fear prison where do i stand or is it just worth writing to the owners of the hotel and making them aware hoping they might refund some of the money???
Many Thanks in advance
James

You need to read your policy to see if it covers you for this.
Most have public liabilty cover which should help, though won't if it was criminal damage.0 -
I agree with Quentin on this speak to your travel Insurers
The funny thing is that in this country it is likely that you would not be reponsible for the damage as they would have to prove you were legally liable eg negligent and I would not have thought tripping avoidable. They probably have different laws though where you were
If your travel insurers can't help you may have Legal Protection Cover on your home that may cover it or at the least they often give free legal advice, the tele number is normally in your policy next to where the claim number is0 -
it all goes wrong if you have more than one travel insurance policy. Eg one with a credit card and then one free with the holiday.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
