becoming trapped by electric bill

Could it be then that as last years bills were estimated and now you are actually taking the readings is why the amount has gone up.
I fell into this trap, as my bills for last year were being underestimated. When I took a reading earlier last month I was horrified at the difference so even though I am using exactly the same if not less electricity, the bills are now higher.I used to suffer from lack of motivation.... now I just can't be arsed.

I know you said you have gas central heating. So do we, but we also have an immersion heater on the hot water cylinder that could be used in an emergency, eg. if the boiler packs up. If you also have one, check that it hasn't accidentally been switched on.0

thanks but our last electric bill was read and the increase was not just a little more but ALOT more if it had been the same as the last one i could cope but the electric is costing as much as my morgage. i feel im banging my head against a wall and getting no were. im sat here with every power point in the house swithced off except the essentials and although its not wizzing round the meter is still turning. . . . .Could it be then that as last years bills were estimated and now you are actually taking the readings is why the amount has gone up.
