50kg dog....510 to 705 grams
60kg dog....585 to 805 grams
70kg dog....655 to 905 grams
The above was for 1 mastiff with non prescription Light large breed. The cheapest I could find is £45 for 15kgs. As I would put both the GSD and one mastiff on this at a combined intake of 1.2kgs a day..this works out at £3.60 per day.
The other mastiff has diet sensitivity issues and would require prescription as he suffers from being underweight. which is given as....
50kg dog ... 490 to 675 grams...and vet reommended that he would need around 850 grams per day as he weighs almost 74 kgs. The best buy I can find is £40 for 10kgs which even at 700grams a day would be £2.85 per day but as the vet recommended 850 it is around £3.63 per day
£3.60 + £3.63 = £7.20 per day
times an average of 30 days per month is around £216 per month...without any tinned meats as a change or treat and then I need to add on the cats....
my vet was quite honest with me and said that a good balanced diet would be as good.
Does this make a bit more sense?? Myself and DH worked out the above a while ago as we were considering Hills but as the lads have settled well on a muesli diet decided against the cost.
Hi Max - the number of grams food per kg dog weight can vary from one product to another. I'm not for one minute suggesting Hill's over your current product, but take this example ...
41 calories in 100g carrots, and
550 calories in 100g chocolate.
So Hill's may contain more calories/nutrients per 100g than A.N. Other brand.
I'm sorry it's a carp example, but it's not all about weight, it's also about ingredients.0 -
My vet recommended this food to me for all my three cats, and honestly, I've never looked back.
I buy it in big bags, which cost just under £20 each, and one bag lasts just over a month for all three cats.
Sometimes when my bags run out I have to wait a few days for the vet to order it in for me, so I feed them felix cat food. My goodness... they are sooo hungry and I'm getting through just under a whole box of Felix per DAY. I looked on the ingredients list, and it's no wonder! It contains something like 80% water and only 2% protein! It actually works out cheaper to pay for the Hills food. I feed the cats 75grams (this is for all three cats, not per cat), twice a day. That fills them up well, plus it doesn't stink the house out like the wet food does.0 -

Whiskas and felix are fresh air. They even say 4 pouches a day, so one box is 3 days! My cat used to scoff a pouch in less than 60 seconds!!! They contain no substance at all.0 -
Well my cat is still eating the Hills dried food. She isn't happy with it, but she needs to loose weight.
When I initially bought the food, the vet ordered a bag of dried and a tray of 24 wet food. I've tried only 4 of the tins & the cat won't touch it. Would you think the vet would accept the food back & maybe credit my account?0 -

Hiya, can I ask is your Cat just on Hills for weight loss, or was there a medical reason (Other than obesity). Just asking because I don't see why any Cat would need to use Hills to lose weight? I'm not a Vet or VN, but mine needed to lose alot & has, and has kept it off & is almost 11. Just reducing the amount of food they have & increasing exercise works for her.
I too hate dried food & there's a chance mine might be given it as the Vet wants to try some Hills T/D alongside her wet, up till now the Vets at the other practice said no dried, this Vet says if she does react to it we'll stop it immediately. I don't agree with feeding dry but I want what's best for her & it'd only be one meal a day of it.
If it's just weight loss i'd go back & ask why exactly normal food won't help if fed in smaller amounts, Tess now just has 200g of Wet a day in 2 meals, so 1 pouch per meal now, and maintains fine & the Vet is happy with her weight!0 -
Yes she was given it because she is obese. She also suffers from diabetes, so maybe just reducing her wet food wasn't going to help with the weight loss.
I don't have to continue with this "regime", but I am giving it a try. My cat now has breathing issues and has never been one for exercise. I'm hoping by losing some weight, her breathing will improve.0 -

Ahh could be then! You're doing your best! Have you tried making her work for her food? Like putting it in Kongs or hiding it all, wrapping it in things etc so it's not just handed to her?0
