Or let me rephrase it; the people or companies collecting for charities. What's in it for them?
Every other day we get a 'clothing collection' leaflet thrown through our letterbox. I'm wondering how many of them are genuine. We always drop our unwanted stuff in a clothing/shoe bank near a large supermarket nearby.
Today, we received a leaflet supposedly donating to the 'Children's Heart Surgery Fund'. This charity seems genuine enough (www.chsf.org.uk), however on the leaflet distributed by E&C Export Ltd, it says;
"E & C Export Ltd.
Collects second hand clothes in UK and exports them to Eastern Europe. The company every month donates £2000 to the Children's Heart Surgery Fund".
Does that in other words mean that any monies made in excess of the £2000 goes in their own pockets? That's what I think.
The e-mail address of this company is a Yahoo one.

Seems likely the company collect, sell on the goods, and give the charity £2k each month. It's £2k that the charity wouldn't get otherwise, and the company aims to make more than £2k after all costs.
Legal, but not quite the same as a giving it all to a charity.for more info check out www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk . You'll find me there.
New Year's Resolution: Post less unnecessary posts. (and that was 2007)
yes, I realise I may appear cold and heartless a lot of the time.0 -
What's in it for them?
Good publicity and a very steady income with publicity and marketing generated BY the charity.
I work for a charity and we've used outside agencies - 50% of something is better than 0% of nothing.0
