No, you don't pay back JSA once you start work.

Only time I have known people to have to pay back benefit once working is if they had some sort of loan from DWP or have been found to be claiming fraudulently.

Do you have to pay that back when you do start working again? I know a relative of mine got benefits after an accident at work, and when he went back, had to repay the benefits he received. Just wondering, I find out if my job is ok or not next week so just preparing for the worst....

Sounds like they got compensation payments for loss of income so it is correct that benefits be repaid in this case.

Yes that sounds about right, they didn't get anything from the employer hence the reason they were claiming. It was a good few years ago and I was a bit younger and didn't really pay that much attention to the financial details, I just remember thinking it was a bit harsh having to repay benefits when he had paid his tax and NI his whole life!

If you have paid 39 years NI stamps and get another job, do you have to pay full stamp again?

Yes, your NI covers far more than your retirement pension.

Very useful thread - I too am in similar situation - redundancy is immenent and at 50 you do feel a bit lost having worked all your life and now in this position. I have already contacted Jobcentre even though not quite got yet the bullet. I will have to "sign on" as there just won't be any money to pay for essentials. Its all a bit scary having gone through the 70's/80's and used to the fear of "the dole" anyway thanks for the advice people and good luck to us all!
