Ikea Kitchen Installation Cost

I am craving a new kitchen and I am thinking of going with an Ikea kitchen, Has anyone had an ikea kitchen installed by ikea? I was wondering roughly how much installation cost might be and would it be much cheaper to get a local joiner/plumber to do the job (if I can find one!)

We got their kitchen & had independent build/fit it.

He had no problems & looked easy to actually fit together.VERRRY smart finish - gloss black!!

BUT...make sure you've had EVERYTHING delivered, else you'll waste fitters time & your £$£$. Ours was delivered in 3 stages!!

& dont forget, if you apply for IKEA store card, you get 5% off first order, using it.

  • I don't know if you would contemplate it, but they are VERY easy to put together, and very easy to fit yourself. I have fitted two kitchens from IKEA in our last couple of houses.
My wife helped me make the units up ready, we then ripped out the old kitchen and put the new one in place. Then it is just a case of making sure the units are level and drilling & screwing them to the wall. We got a carpenter to fit the worktop so the visible bits looked professional (butt joins and sink/hob holes).
We may have just been lucky, we are moving again soon and I am planning to fit our kitchen in the new property. I am not a tradesman of any shape or form, I am just tight as a ducks behind. However, when finished the kitchens look really good.

One thing I would mention about IKEA kitchens though, The backs of the cupboards got right back to the wall. If you have any pipes running along your wall it may be easier to get a plumber to lower them to run along the floor line.

I think the rule of thumb is whatever you pay for the kitchen, you pay again to have it fitted.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. I hadnt thought of getting an ikea card for the discount. What a good idea.

I helped my sister fit her new kitchen (everything except the plumbing). I am very handy even though a single mum with 4 kids !!, I have done loads of jobs for myself to save money but this job would be too large for me to contemplate. I think doing it myself would cause too much disruption for too long. Although I do agree in principle, not too difficult but rather time consuming.

If I ever get married again I will make sure he is a joiner, plumber, electrician, builder .... (only kidding - although would save me a fortune and I do get tired of doing it all myself !!)

  • Personally after building a range of Ikea furniture (not a kitchen) over the last month I would give it a go building it yourself. make sure your not missing any bits and have a go, if it doesnt work out find a joiner and get them to do it you could save yourself a lot of money doing it yourself if it works out you will have saved a fortune if not then pay someone to do it. it will take a bit longer I expect but money saved is good.

I would get a plumber to sort that side of things and maybe a joiner to do the work tops but the bases shouldnt be too difficult.

Ikea kitchens are pretty solid. At the moment, up here anyway , they are doing 0% finance on kitchens. Or you could open an Ikea storecard. We did that recently and got £10 gift vouchers for every £100 we spent on our first purchase. We bought a whole stack of units for our Guide Hall, used the £1500 credit limit we got, and spent the £150 vouchers on even more units.
They are quite easy to assemble and install, the tricky bits are the pelmet, cornice, and any worktop joints. If you get their beech worktops I would not use their wood treatment. Rather use Junkers ( or similar) Rustic Oil. And sand them well.
  • We got our kitchen from ikea - everything including all the integrated appliances.. they delivered to northern ireland and my dad and I installed it - easy enough.. my dad had experience of installing his own ikea kitchen which helped... it's all in the planning - checking your order 5 times and checking every part that arrives.. and measuring twice and cutting once..

I had B&Q out yesterday to design/quote for Kitchen. Kitchen came to £3001 and they wanted £2800 to install it (including laying flooring & tiling walls). So loungelizards rule was pretty much spot on!
