Next and Capquest ARRRRRRRRRRHHHHH

Options
My daughter moved out a year ago to her own flat. Being an organised person she duly informed her bank, mobile provider etc etc of her new address. She had a very small balance on a Next card and informed them of her new address. Unknown to her a muppet at next had keyed in a completely wrong address so statements for this small balance were never received and therefore overlooked.

A couple of days ago she rang me very upset because she has had a letter from Capquest demanding payment or further action would be taken. She has paid the balance today but thought she would phone Next customer services first to put the record straight that she was not trying to avoid payment and it was their mistake. No joy. Apparently it is her fault because she gave them the wrong address (not true) and she had even had more goods delivered to the address (also not true) NOT ONE HINT OF AN APOLOGY !!!

To top it all I had a phone call yesterday from Capquest from a guy who sounded a lot like Ali G telling me "dat it wood be in her interests ta giv dem a coll about sumfink he can't giv me no details about" Give me strength !!
My friend drowned in a bowl of muesli.
He was pulled in by a strong currant.

I know the feeling! I used a credit card which was snoring peacefully in my wallet to buy £45 worth of goods from Ebay. I'd moved house and informed everyone in writing plus had my post redirected for 12 months a while before this. I never received any statement from the CC and just forgot about the payment, until a letter arrived from a debt collector (can't think of the name but it is the one in Leeds which is well known.) At first I thought it was a scam as I didn't think I owed anyone anything, and would you send a cheque for over £100 to a PO box number with no other info? A second letter arrived for a larger figure so I did some research and found it was a real company so rang them. I have to say they were quite pleasant and eventually agreed to accept half the sum involved and close the file, based on the fact I had notified the CC company that I had moved and it was their incompetence. A hard lesson learned though, and certainly money I couldn't afford to lose. I hope your daughter gets this resolved soon, it is horrible.

If Next had keyed in the wrong address so she didn't get the statements, and accused her of giving the wrong address, then how come they found the right address to send the payment demand address to?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Something that debt chasers use called the GAIN (Gone Away Information Network). If you move house and tell a couple of creditors but don't tell everybody, your address change is listed on that.
  • Cap Quest are a horrendous company to deal with.

We switched mobiles from contract to PAYG (staying with the same network) a good few months back and after paying what we thought was the full and final balance on the contract we assumed everything was ok.

Anyways, heard nothing more until we received a letter from Cap Quest demanding payment of £12.00 - which had already been paid to the mobile company via telephone with cc.

They would not accept that this payment had been made and claimed they could not contact the mobile company to clarify and that I owed this money. After being very polite I finally lost it after about the 10th phone call I told them to do whatever the please as I had paid the money and if they wished to take it further then so be it. Never heard from them again.

I'm guessing this was with Three, it was covered on watch dog a couple of weeks ago, they even have a template letter you can send. Have a look at the bbc website on it as its interesting

    Hi
No it was Vodafone. We had paid our final bill around £250 for two phones and these clowns where trying to chase us for £12.00 - which had already been paid. They were adamant that they couldn't contact Vodafone to confirm payment had been made. Complete idiots.
    Thanks for your post though.
