Global bond consistency

I've been doing a fair bit of market research.
It seems to me, investing in global bonds, or international bonds as opposed to global equities offers well above average yield- and have shown satisfactorily consistent returns over the past 5 years and performing rather well in a supposed global recession.
Is this a sign that global bond, especially in emerging markets, is becoming an excellent performance driver in ensuring good capital returns, with a relatively low risk?

I expect most of the performance can be explained by recent weakness in the pound.0
