Verified By VISA - password changed

Hi, This is about an Alliance & Leicester Debit Card but this looks like the best forum for it as its about Verified by VISA.
On Tuesday one of our accounts had its Verified by VISA password changed and (a bit later?) a transaction was attempted for a fridge at Comet!. None of this was done by us. Luckily we'd contact A&L because they sent a password changed email to us, and our PCs had not even been on that morning.
I've since been trying to prove (for myself as much as anyone) that our PCs are not the cause of a problem due to keyloggers or rootkits. Although A&L did ask for a screen print of an AV run. However I did read on the web that some issuers allow you to change the VbV password online with only a date of birth and the card number. Is this true? Is it true for A&L?
This would explain the fraud better as I assume if they had our password already it would have been much quieter to make the transaction (and others) using that as it would not generate any alerts.
Naturally I remain very wary of using these PCs for financial stuff and may have to resort to reinstalling them. Sigh. Been running loads of AVs etc.
PS: The card has been canceled of course.

Is it a credit card or debit card?
Presuming Debit card as it would iof been MBNA you spoke with if Credit.
Depending onwhere your card and some personal details were compromised, it's not hard to sign up for Verified by Visa or Mastercard secure code.
Interesting though how they got hold of the username to change the password...0 -

As mentioned it was their DEBIT CARD. Its had VbV for quite a while but at 10am on the 10th someone changed the password and (later?) made a transaction. Not good.Is it a credit card or debit card?

Old thread resurection - but the exact same thing happened to me today. Got an email from A&L (totally legit) saying I'd changed my password...nope, not me. Quick check at their end of transactions and there's a transaction for 101 Euros, not me.
I have no idea how someone has managed to change my password - they need my dob etc etc I think?0
