Can I cancel Land of Leather order?

Update:
On 19th Feb. received letter from LoL c/o Deloitte that I have to wait a further 10-12 weeks for sofas. Which would bring delivery up to end April or mid-May. Wasn't prepared to wait that long since they'd been on order since 3rd Jan!
Letter also stated that they would give 5% discount or free delivery but I had to make my mind up within 7 days "or deposit may be at risk".
Letter also gave a "dedicated helpline number" if delivery date was "problematic". Too right it was problematic - I wasn't prepared to wait until then for sofas which should have been here end Feb! Tried ringing without any success on "dedicated" helpline number. No-one ever answered so I sent a fax through saying that I was cancelling the order and wanted my deposit back - this was on 19th Feb.
Meanwhile....tried to get through to the helpline with no joy. I got fed up with it in the end and spoke to my card provider, Lloyds TSB. They said that I should write to them at Southend-On-Sea and gave me details but said that it was not guaranteed I would get my money back. She mentioned something like you only have 30 days - I have read previously (on this site) that you have 120 days. In any event, I have written today to Lloyds Debit Card Dispute team to see if they can claim back my deposit.
In between times, I have now been able to speak to someone at LoL on their "dedicated" helpline. I have to say the lady I spoke to was extremely unhelpful. She just said that to claim back my deposit I should contact my cardholder. As to the letter I had received from them explaining the discount etc. I should return the enclosed form with "cancel order" written all over it - they will then cancel the order. She said that I was a "secured creditor" and I would not have received that letter if I was "unsecured". To be honest, she was that unhelpful that I'm not any further forward with them. One thing is for sure, LoL/Administrator are not going to refund any deposits and it's up to the customer to do it through their card provider!
Will let you all know when I've had a reply from Lloyds about the Visa Charge Back application!0 -
I think she meant that had you carried on then "The Receiver and Manager" would have guaranteed the deal they offered you. Presumably Deloitte are good for the price of a sofa.
On the Lloyds front, there is unlikely to be a way they can get back the deposit from a dead company, if they have paid it, any more than from a dead person (unless they have some sort of priority charge over the assets of L-o-L.) but in my opinion that is their problem for taking on such a dodgy customer as L-o-L.
Let us know how it all pans out in the end..0 -
Would you believe the day after I got the call from LOL (in my post above) I got a call arranging the delivery of my sofa. Couldn't believe it!
Anyway it was delivered yesterday so all is well and I'm a happy bunny.0 -

I once bought a realy lovely sofa which was well sprung/good condition but fairly horrid fabric, for a tenner from the local paper, I had a roll of 'designer' uphostery fabric that I'd got at a sale from a very expensive fabric shop: it cost staggaringly little £50 quid. Then sold it in a friend shop for just under £250 quid. But it was quite hard work...I wouldn't do it again.
Quality....0
