Shoe/Boot Reheeling

Hi,
I know this is a bit of a weird one, & I hope i've posted it in the right place, as it's kind of an old fashioned thing to do (for us youngsters, anyway!).
I noticed recently that my favourite pair of shoes have become really loud when I walk, and on closer inspection noticed that a silver screw thing is sticking out of the bottom of each of the (2") heels. I really love them, and being a good moneysaver :A would like to get them reheeled(?) instead of chucking them out.
How much does it cost? Do most shoe repair places do this? Can most places do it the same day?
Thanks for any help on this one!

Most of those shoe repair places will even do them while you wait if you need them to. Costs vary, dependant on the repair, but it's certainly wa-a-a-ay less than the cost of a new pair.

Ooh ooh! I can help with this one :hello:
I just paid £6.50 for 2 new heels on a pair of shoes. He also repainted the heels where the colour had worn off. As there was nothing else wrong with the shoes I thought this was a bargain. This was at a local independent tailors/dry cleaners - I think he sent them off as I had to collect them 2 days later.
I once paid £9 for a heel at a chain store place (Timpsons or something like that) so it's worth shopping around.New year, no debt! Debt free date - 02/01/07 :j :j :j0 -
Thanks a lot Squeaky & Alfietinker!
Will get myself down to a shoe repair shop pronto.
Cheers :beer:0 -
I recently read (somewhere on here I think) that Timpsons can vary a lot with their prices. Apparently they have a huge mark up and dont have set prices. Maybe if you go to one of their stores & they quote you a price it may be worth saying 'oh, thats more than I thought, I''ll see if I can get it done a bit cheaper somewhere else first'.
I did that last week when I had some keys cut and the man said 'ok, I'll knock you 2 quid off that price'. Hopefully it'll work with shoe repairs too
Anything is worth a trySometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
I think I pay about £7.50 in one on the high street here in Southend & I get my dh's shoes reheeled (he's very heavy footed!) for £10.
There are not many cobblers around any more are there. I personally find a pair of shoes & find them so comfortable, I keep them going as long as possible!MoneyBox savings £30.37 (10/05/06)
Now at................£54.50(07/06/06)

Reheeling and resoling is COMPLETELY the way forward. My fave boots have now done 5 years, being worn at least three times a week.
I make sure i get metal heel tips put on as they last ages (though they do make you quite clicky! i don't know whereabouts you are, but you may well have heard me tramping down the street anyway!)
I do usually get mine done at Timpsons cus they're very convenient...
IN THEIR DEFENCE, and possible cheat here...
Last time i took them in because one of the heel tips had fallen off. He asked me whether i'd had it fitted there, and i said yes. He asked how long ago, and i said about ten months... so he insisted on redoing them both for freeeee! apparently they have some kind of guarantee, presumably a year.
When i dust them off again next autumn i may just dust EXTRA HARD on the old heel tips so i can get them replaced for free again! :j
