Hoodles Brennan Advisory Cold Calling

Hi, a little warning

I've just had hoodless Brennan on the phone twice in two days, they seem to be pretty persistant, using a very hard sell to try and get me on the advisory account, giving me examples of how you can get 75% returns in 1 day.

I have to say i'm not very happy about this, as while I now abit about stock markets and how they run, having been a broker and seen some peoples inexperience and naviety this could lead to some recommendations that cost some people alot of money.

The fact that they try this is quite awful, especially as i only have placed 1 or 2 trades on the execution only account, and now they thing i would be appropriate to sell AIM penny stocks.

An one had the hard sell yet, or actually use the advisory account.

If you hadnt have mentioned Hoodles Brennan then you would have got many of us here telling you it sounds like a scam.

Cold calling on investments is a breach of FSA rules.

If you had been a broker, I would have expected you to be able to string a sentence together. I've been with HB (execution only) for years. Whilst their service is sometimes limiting, I have never had them try to sell me their advisory service.
  • It's true, partly (in my case). I have only had the one call, and that was in reference to an advisory account. However, in my opinion, whilst my opening an advisory account was the basis of the call, the caller wasn't in any way persistent in my doing so. Indeed, the call felt more informational, despite the fact that it was actually 'cold'.

If it was a scam, it was a good one. The caller was highly knowledgeable, and - as a novice - I gained some useful pointers (general dealing and market information, rather than possible deals or amounts to be gained). They gained no more than my promise to look at the details of the advisory account on their website, which I actually did (it isn't for me).

I have warned about Hoodless Brennan many times. They have been fined in the past by the FSA for "unacceptable sales practices".
