My experience with Halifax Home Insurance

Hi there,

Just wanted to do a little write up about my experience with Halifax Home Insurance (content only) after a burglary. To give people who have to do a claim an idea of how it works.

Our home was burgled in the end of January. I called Halifax the next day to report the burglary. Within 48 hours I got a call that a claim adjuster would visit me two weeks later. The claim adjuster called me the day before (they call sometime before 8pm) and arranged to come to my house in the morning. Next day the claim adjuster came to my house.
He first verified what was in my file (i.e. age of house, non smokers and so on), then I had to tell him about the burglary. Then we looked up what it would cost to replace items. They replace like for like - i.e. I had a 32 inch LCD TV stolen amongst other things which was a bit over a year old so then they will replace it with a new 32 inch LCD TV of the same brand. After calculating what replacing the stolen items would cost he gave me a figure that they will pay to my bank account. I also had a watch stolen and this claim was handled by another company that does watches and jewelery claims. I had to mail a picture of me wearing the watch (ok, that was a bit silly) and a picture of the receipt of the watch to this company. Apparently they will give me vouchers to buy a new watch.

Of course there is a £100 excess fee and my no claims discount (I think it's 30 %) will be gone.

To summarize I am very happy with how Halifax handled my claim. They were quite quick I think and I think it's great that they pay you in cash instead of ordering new things for you. That way you can replace the things you lost at your own convenience and with exactly the models you need.

This is the first time I claimed anything on insurance so I am happy with the way it went and will stick to Halifax Home Insurance.

Thanks,
db

Its nice that some one who was pleased with the service from their Insurer took the time to write on here as most people do not so anyone looking at this forum would think Insurers are all bad. Most decent Insurers see themselves as a brand such as M&S etc and genuinly want to give good service so your tell all your friends and keep renewing their policy.
