Motor insurance - cover within EU?

They include it automatically as everyone in europe issues a greencard not a certificate like ours.
If you rent out cars abroad look at such as below, they will do an annual policy that gives you the top up cover and waives your excess that the car hire will try charge you a fortune for. These policies will save you an absolute fortune.

There are plenty of others who offer this just google "car hire insurance"0 -
You do not need to have a Green Card with you when travelling in EU countries and a few others. Confirmation of cover is printed on the back of the Certificate of Motor Insurance and you should carry this document with you.
You do however need to establish what cover your policy provides. Some, like Saga, give comprehensive cover (assuming the basic policy is comprehensive) without extra charge. Others give just the minimum legal requirement of whatever country you happen to be travelling in so if you want comprehensive cover, you have to pay for it. They will not necessarily issue a Green Card as the wording of the Certificate of Insurance negates the need for one.0 -

A lot of companies offer free green card cover not just Elephant, if you go abroad it is worth checking if your company charge for this as it can make their price expensive.
As I said earlier if you go abroad often, the Norwich Union policy (It must be through a broker as you don't get it ofrom the direct arm) gives free "Green Card Cover" and includes RAC cover while you are in Europe which can be expensive if you take breakdown cover out seperately.0 -
I'm with Equity Red Star. Going to check my policy tomorrow. I could try calling the Ins Co rather than the broker too.0

For private cars ERS give the same level of cover in the EU as in the UK as long as your trip is less than 60 days duration.0 -
