High Gas Usage

ive just had an estimated gas bill so went to look at the meter and found the reading was underestimated by 2600 unit, when i put on my central heating on at night for 5 hours it uses 7 units about 70 kwh, is this to high and could there be a problem somewhere, ifit correct my bill is likely to be about 2000 pounds ouch

    Hi,

The usage you quote is not overly high but if you are that many units underestimated, then yes you will receive a large correction bill.

Check all your previous bills and see if you can establish how long your bills have been estimated, it sounds like it may have been for a while.

Contact your supplier immediately and get it corrected, if this has been estimated for a long time the least you should get is an offer of a payment arrangement (maybe for the length of time its been incorrect) to pay the catch up bill back.

Try and find out from your supplier why its been estimated and not read by a meter reader. If they haven't attempted to read the meter your supplier my be at fault and you may be able to argue the catch up bill.

    Hope this helps. :)

Look at the your bills and find the last one that was based on an actual reading. This will show how long you have been getting estimated bills and therefore how much catch up you are now paying.
The golden rule is every time you receive a bill that has an end reading that is an estimate check the reading and if it is more than a few units different from the meter call your supplier.

Depends on how long your meter readings have been (under)estimated.

Is your meter imperial or metric (does it have m3 or ft3 on it)? Your '7 units about 70 kWh' suggests it is metric but your subsequent '7 units cost £7' is an imperial price!
