1 month away... worth suspending car insurance?

All,

I'm off to Austraila for 4 weeks, i'm wondering if it is worth me suspending my car insurance for that period and saving the £30-£35 I would be paying. My car insurance is with Egg - I'm hoping I can just 'suspend' it and they will tail an extra month onto the end of my policy.

However i'm wondering if it is worth the risk? My car is kept, (will be kept) on the driveway however we have a second car we can block it in with. Obviously I would remove everything I could from the car - even thinking about taking one or two of the wheels off!

Worth it do you recon? Advice?

for the sake of 35quid you might as well keep it insured. If you take parts off it - especially 1 or 2 wheels then you're starting a trend rather than keeping it safe..

You take 2 wheels off - somebody else things it's been attacked and help themselves to the other 2.

Keep your insurance going...what happens if something unforseen happens? For instance a tile could come off your roof and hit the car, it could have an electrical fault and catch fire etc etc

Better to be safe than sorry :)

Also some insurance companies would class this as a change to the policy and charge an admin fee anyway!

In my experience (not with Egg) they don't do it like that. (That would be too sensible!) For one thing, suspension doesn't reduce your premium to "NIL" as they will leave the fire and theft cover on, so you probably save a half or two thirds, and for another they credit this to you in the form of a saving on your RENEWAL - which then ties you into them or you lose it.

The only time we suspended (when my wife was in hospital for a long while) we lost the money because that company's renewal premium was rubbish despite the credit for suspension. So I honestly wouldn't recommend it.
