    Hi,

I am sure that this system is not in place, for any supplier. The problem would be that although you have technically paid the supplier the device which you have to put in the meter would not have any data on it to pass to the meter.

As you know when you pay at the shop they take the device to 'put' the money on it.

    Hope this helps. :)

Generally this operates with the PIR meter you have in NI but this in not available in the UK.

I'm with British Gas and I've got an Energypoint. It's basically a small device a bit like the shops have and you use it to top up your electric, I had to register my debit card with British Gas and now whenever I need to top-up I just do it with the Energypoint. You just stick your key in, enter your pass number, punch in how much you want to top-up then the security number from the back of the debit card you registered and the money is added to your key. It's been a Godsend during the bad weather, it's just a shame they don't have something similar for the gas.

im with british gas too, and have my electric on key, so that sounds right.

how did you find out about this anguk? did you get a letter too? did you have to pay for the device?

tried googling again- still cant find any info! :o

i need to know! :rotfl: (been to the shop to top up now though) just very intrigued that googling brings up nothing- and yet this letter said to go to a website to register - looked on british gas website- nothing. weird

Why don't you just ring BG and ask them.
It may be a trial scheme and not ready to be fully rolled out so not on the website yet but as you are in the trial area ( as you got the letter) you might be able to go on it now.

In our ‘Pay As You Go Energy’ business we introduced prepayment dual fuel discounts and an on-line offer, and we continued to roll out our EnergyPoint device which allows customers to charge their meters in their own homes. This is now available to around 850,000 customers.

It was actually the salesman who told me about it when I switched to British Gas. I've had mine since last February, I think they were trialling them first then offering them to their customers. I was lucky and got mine free, if I remember correctly they normally cost about £25 but you get that refunded to your key, or something like that.

After I posted I had a google and couldn't find anything, there's not even anything about them on the British Gas site. You could perhaps give them a ring and ask them?
