Right, got me day off tommorrow to take me car in for its MOT and this is the first time ever in owning a car, that i think it may fail. In the last week before ive been on holiday and now, everytime i brake really hard i can hear one the rear wheels locking up and causing the car's back end to slideout. Does anyone have any ideas whats causing this? its fine when driving at low speeds but when braking hard it happens.......... Also put this in the motoring board as well to see if any one can help there as well.Savings Total so far for 2023: £8,062.580

Morning James,
No idea about the car I'm afraid, I only just about know how to fill mine up with petrol! Only advice I can offer is to shop around at different garages once you find out what it is and not just go with the garage that is doing the MOT. Also have you looked at Martin's article about local authority MOT garages? V interesting. And don't forget if it fails, you can get it retested for free!
I think I paid £42 for my MOT this May.Saving for an early retirement!0 -
Thanks Imelda  yeah had alook at Martins article about MOT's but the one in Croydon only does 3 a day and didnt have any spaces until 3 weeks time (all MSE'ers getting in there  :rotfl: ) and mines already run out while i was on holiday :doh:Will definatley have a shop round if i need any repairs cos i know a little bit about cars (but not enough to know whats wrong with it at the moment  ) so im definately being a proper MSE'er and making sure im not going to get charged the earth.Savings Total so far for 2023: £8,062.580

It may be a stuck piston/calliper. This degrades the efficiency of one of your brakes, so the other one locks the wheel earlier.
Depends on why it's siezed, but cleaning it off, and a short intellectual discussion with a hammer normally sorts it out."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

You're certainly back in harness and firing on all cylinders James, if you'll excuse the mixed metaphors.
Good to see you hammering the debts again.
I applied by phone for a new 0% cc no fee BT for 6 months. I'll have £9,900 left on one that's ending in Oct and I'd like to transfer the lot. I came back as "referred" tho' and was told that the credit limit will be only £7500. But I can send in bank statements etc and request more, IF I get accepted at all that is.
I want to pay off another card completely before the 0% ends in Nov so then I'd just have this last one and UNDER10k!!!
But I've got a difficult few months ahead so don't know if I'll manage it. Also OH and I are feeling that we want some regular fun in life and maybe take the debt repayment more slowly.

Ahh dont be silly Verbatim its good to hear that ur doing so well :j
and i totally understand with the taking the payments a little bit easier to have some regular fun in ur life its been nice this month to have a little bit of money to spend on myself and get a few bits and pieces sorted that i needed to.
Had a 2 bits of good news today £85 has been recieved into my Quidco account and i should get this at the end of this month :j (or so it says  ) plus i also won £50 playing on one of the blackjack games on Bingo.co.uk from just £10 deposit :j
(obviously not saying this is the way to go about paying debts but i play with £10 a month i allow myself out of my allowance)
So once i get the money im going to put it into a savings account so i have a little bit of money behind me just incase i have to fix anything else on me car  :rotfl:Savings Total so far for 2023: £8,062.580 -

Better to do it at the weekend when there is light. You will need to jack your car up (remember to use axle stands) and take the wheels off. Also, if you don't really know your way around brakes, it might be best to have a garage that you trust do it."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

im going to see if i can get one of my mates round to have a look at it who knows a fair bit more about these kinds of things. I have no qualms about tinkering with a car but when it comes to the brakes ill leave it to some one else lol many thanks ZTD :beer:Savings Total so far for 2023: £8,062.580 -
