I have never had great success with duct tape as it does not always contour well and if not careful sticks to itself as you wind it and later peels away.
I have used this below for sealing holes, gutters, pipes etc with great success. It's a tape covered in gungy stuff that moulds to itself and any contour. Great for a temporary repair round this joint. Often available in DIY sheds and made by Sylglas

if it wont push up or funds are tight wrap it with DENSO tape
