The greatest recycling tool ever has to be .....................(big drum roll please)................................... EBAY!!!!!!!!
I have extended the old adage of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle to inculde Resell on the end! (OK, I know it's not the most imaginative personal mantra but it works for me_party_)
Depending on if you are talking about rubbish-squeezed-every-last-possible-ounce-of-use-out-of-this-egg-box type recycling, in which case it really means either the blue topped dustbin or fire
starters are generally the only options, but what-can-I-do-with-this-egg-box? type recycling is covered really well in the "Double Duty" thread, but I don't know how to link a thread into my post?
HTH;)
PS: seedtrays out of those egg boxes, but you knew that;).Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0 -

Didn't make any money for me personally but last term at sons school we were asked to take in our outgrown clothes on a set day and put them in a container which was in the school grounds. The school was paid so much per weight. I can't remember if the money raised was for school funds or for charity.0

There's a thread on obvious tips which will cover quite a lot of ground. It isn't indexed so you'll have to browse it for the ones most relevant to whichever section of the book you are doing:-

Books can be passed on for re-reading using the bookcrossing.com club. I have just picked a free read this way.0

Hiya
I wanted to tell the site about https://www.freecycle.org which is a yahoo group which sends e mails to your e mail account which people have sent to give away unwanted items. It is absolutely huge in the Bristol area and I presume nationally too. I have not seen any reference to it in Old Style but it really resonates with the budget living ethos. You can also make requests for wanted items. I cannot recommned this highly enough and have received myself the following for free; a playpen, a stairgate, baby clothes, fireplace, carpet, baby changing table, childrens toys and a bread maker. I have given away stuff too. Marvellous!! Spread the word0 -
I are renowned for being 'tight' and finding uses for things that others throw away.
Old Jeans? Zips bust, holes in knees etc.???? If there are holes in the knees, the simplest and most obvious is to cut off the legs and fray the bottoms for the surfer look! I have also made the jeans into short skirts. Unpick the legs from the crotch down, cut off above the holes in knees, Lay in flat ad see how it lies. You will see an obvious triangle shape that needs filling. fill the 'space' with some denim from below the knee(or a contrasting fabric if you want to be more daring!) Stitch it all in and ' Bob's your Uncle' a skirt for nowt!
I wanted a bag to fit the poles from Our caravan awning. Needed to be strong. Just cut the legs from old jeans, cut them (unpicking too much trouble for this one) laid
them out on the floor, one this way, one that, then stitched them into a long ,thin heavy duty bag Purrrrrfick!!!!
Have mad casual bags from the tops of jeans. Just cut the legs off, leaving the pockets Zip etc in tact. Make a gusset from the denim in the legs,( or make it easy and just sew seams together) cut long strips of the denim joining them (slanted so not too much bulk) to make straps, stich up the zip so no one can pinch your purse!!! Can be unlined or lined with whatever coloured fabric you can lay your hands on, in my case it would be an old skirt or something.Everyone thinks I have bought the bags. I like to use the designer labelled ones that the kids are slinging out. Of course I leave the label on show, to impress!!!!LOL I have made so many I even use one for my peg bag!
My deck chair covers have split and I am going to make use of a few pairs of jeans to make trendy new covers that will be very strong. Am I a bit mad???? I have lots more 'daft' ideas for stuff, so watch this space...........Keep on trucking!0 -
Not sure if this counts as double duty, saving money, recycling or both?
If you're a gardener, instead of buying plastic root trainers for sweet peas and other deep rooted plants, use old toilet roll tubes. Stand on a tray, fill with compost and use as normal. When you put the plants in the garden just plant the whole lot - tube and all. The tube will compost back into the soil thus improving the amount of 'organic matter' in the ground too.
Voila!
You can also make newspaper pots and use in the same wayNew year, no debt! Debt free date - 02/01/07 :j :j :j0 -
These are worth money. This site http://www.recyclingappeal.com lets you donate the money to an existing charity scheme, or to start your own.
Here's how much they pay:

I have also had an envelope through the door where you can get paid yourself; but I didn't keep it so I'm afraid I don't remember who the company was.:T0
