Yes you can use it as a Sky+ box and you will continue to receive the free HD channels too.

We had Sky plus HD, paid £120 over the first 12 months, didnt think it was worth the £10 a month so cancelled it and now still use the HD box.
I didnt realise there were any free HD channels.
Why dont yu just buy the SKy plus package, I am told it is just £29 at currys at the moment.

Any skybox belongs to you from day 1.

  • isnt he deal from currys for new customers?
  • If you can do this after the 12 months can you cancel the HD within in the first 8 days of having this package and use as normal sky+ box then? It's just the website says if you cancel then sky will refund the cost of the box and collect? Also do you have to buy a tv @ currys/comet for the £29 deal?

No you can't, it's a 12 month contract so if you cancel after 8 days then as you say they will take the box back and cancel your agreement.

do you think they would be willing to swap the hd box for the standard box since it is the same price?

If you cancel the subscription completely after 12 months you will be unable to record or play back (unless you insist on paying £10 per month for this facility).

As far as i know, once you have the box, it is yours. Which is why you get
inundated with other companies nearing the end of the contract trying to sell you breakdown insurance. We bought ours quite a number of years ago and have been told on more than one occasion that if it needs mending, it is our responsibility. The £10 subscription you pay is only for the service.
