PPI Reclaiming - Help Please

Options
Hi all, your help will be much appreciated! I took out PPI with an Abbey loan a few years ago - wasn't missold it and was aware what it did/didn't cover. My query is regarding after sales and specificaly cancellation.

I attempted to cancel this after 28/29 days and was told I was not able to as I was a day late and had to keep it in place for the term. From what I can now tell it seems that I could have cancelled this even if I was after the 28day cooling off period. I have since tried to cancel it a few times and been passed from pillar to post.

Would I have a valid claim as I was told that I was unable to cancel the PPI and if so should I e expecting a full refund?

Thanks again for your help!

    Hi

In my opinion yes you have a claim here.

Write to them and tell them you have recently looked into this issue and believe you were in your rights to cancel the PPI when you requested this, but they put you off from doing when you had asked them to do this within the cooling period where now you are making a complaint, and wish to reclaim on this now, because basically you have been paying for something you did not want which obviously cost you more in the long run of the loan.

Again they have 8 weeks, and if you get no satisfaction, write again until you receive a final response, or until you have exhausted the complaints procedures, where they should enclose the financial ombudsman service leaflet with the procedures of complaining to them.

How long ago was this loan taken out?

If in the last 6 years and you have no paperwork for this you have the option of requesting a SAR - known as a Subject Access Request, they have to comply by 40 days of this request, where they must or should supply you with all the information they have on you.
(this may be useful for your complaint - if you had tried cancelling, the information may have been recorded on data). (kept on file then).

You will find a template SAR on this thread above, however there ia £10 cheque or postal order payment required for this, and always post by recorded delivery.

    Good luck.;)
