Package Holiday - Flight Cancellation -HELP PLEASE!!!

Hi,

Myself and my girlfriend have recently booked a holiday for 2 to Crete but have just receveied a phone call from our travel agents (Qwerty) who have said the flight company we were flying with have cancelled theirs flights and they now want us to pay an extra £44.00 each to fly with easyjet. We had paid fully upfront and receieved confirmation of the original holiday details in writing. Can they demand more money?? We only booked it because of the cheap price and now its getting more expsensive!! Help Please!!!!

I'm pretty sure you could demand a refund but that's not much good unless you can get an equivalent deal now. Look on Easyjet website to find out how much they're charging you for these in case you can make a comparison and use it as a negotiating point.
If you don't mind me asking, who were the original flights booked with as other members might be affected and not know yet?
  • Hi,

not 100% sure who the flights are with, the flight number starts with VIK so maybe Viking Airlines!?! It was one of the deals on the Travel zoo email about 3/4 weeks ago.

Viking Airlines are still advertising Manchester or Gatwick to Heraklion flights on a Tuesday for their summer schedule. Qwerty Travel are still selling holidays there as well and going by their schedules they're still using flights that take off at the same time as the Viking ones. I'd be asking more questions if I was you!

It seems you haven't booked a package deal in the traditional sense, but a flight & hotel deal.

Its a technicality, but there is a difference, one is where the flight, transfers and package are all put together by a tour operator (Thsomson, First Choice, MyTravel etc) and you have bought the holiday, if any aspect changes it is down to them to sort it out so the holiday can go ahead.

What a lot of online sites are doing is the "Flight and Hotel" thing, which may appear to be a package but in effect they have effectively booked you on a flight, and then booked you a hotel, little difference if you booked the flight with the airline/charter company, and then booked a hotel through a hotel provider.

If the flight company cancel; the hotel booking may be unaffected as it may be with a different provider. That may be why they want you to pay extra for flights with easyJet. However, I'm not sure they can MAKE you pay more for flights with a different operator, they may be able to suggest it, but you should be able to cancel the lot (flight and hotel) if you are not happy with any alternative they can offer.

Lastly, and on a tangent, VIK is Viking Airlines. Now I don't know what details you have, but is there a mention of "Kiss" or "Kiss Flights" anywhere in relation to your flight booking? Reason I ask is that Viking are operating some flights this summer for a charterer called Kiss Flights. Kiss flights are owned by some of the senior management of the ill fated XL Airways, and Viking Airlines are owned by some very close associates of theirs. Viking have added 737s to their fleet, which are ex-XL Airways. Kiss flights was launched within weeks of XL's demise. The whole thing stinks. (this is on a tangent though, and may be nothing to do with your booking).

Couldn't agree more about everything surrounding Kiss Flights. Kiss Flights brand, domain name and bookings were sold last month to Flight Options.

  • Totally agree about Kiss. I work for the country's largest independent agent and we have been told under NO circumstances are we to do business with them.

Also, to re-iterate what you were told a couple of posts ago, you've been sold a "Dynamic package" which is what caused all the trouble when XL went bump last year. If you want to go you don't really have too much choice but to take those flights and the longer you leave it before you give an answer may make the price go up more. Qwerty will have it all covered in their terms and conditions.

:confused:OMG have just stumbled on this forum about Kiss !!

Booked a holiday yesterday to Lanzarote and it wasn't until I had paid that I knew who the airline was (perhaps I missed it). Since I hadn't heard of Kiss Flights when I read it on the confirmation, I posted on another forum on here but haven't yet had a response. Perhaps somebody knows how I can contact them, or better still do you think the travel agent (Holday Superstore.com) may be willing to change the flights? They weren't the cheapest and now, if I can't change them I am going to be worrying until I get in the air and then on holiday, wondering if I can get home!!!

HELP ME, HELP ME SOMEONE PLEASE - there must be an Angel out there!!

Thank you, in advance, for any help you can give me.
