Historical damage to car

Hello
Does anyone know if you can claim for damage that must have occurred in the past? My husband noticed a slight dent at the bottom of one of the passenger doors.
Is this a viable claim? Obviously depends on cost of repair compared to loss of no claims but just wondered if anyone else had had this happen to them?
Cheers
