SCART socket problem

Hi all
I've been given a 2nd hand telly by a friend.
The scart socket for the DVD will only display the picture in black & white.
I know it's the socket as I swapped them and then the TV was showing B&W thru' that socket.
My problem is that if it was the lead I could replace it or twiddle about with the connectors as they can be clearly seen.
What can I do to fix the socket (there isn't a 3rd one that I could use as a spare)?
Thanks

Might it be the cable? If it's sending S-VHS over SCART and the crominance pin's gone, then that would explain it.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

If one scart socket is working then you could get one of these (or similar)

Change the input signal for the scart connector to CVBS, which is a composite signal. The scart on your TV might be receiving a RGB signal, which its not capable of displaying correctly.0

It's sending an American NTSC signal = BW0

Thanks for all your suggestions, the problem is now resolved.
It turns out the socket was OK but the scart port was set to S-Video, when I altered it to Video it worked instantly.
Thanks again0
