Laptop Playing Up?

I got a laptop just before Xmas, and it ran ok up until about 2 weeks ago, It came with Vista, and at least once a day it would give a blue screen of death and reboot, I got fed up with this and installed XP, Now rather than the blue screen of death it just freezes, I mean you turn it on, it loads up and freezes. What could the issue be? It doesn't do it all the time, just enough to be annoying.

What did you install / change / delete 2 weeks ago...?

DO you have a system restore disk from when you bought it ?

Yes I do, I have tried reinstalling but no good, so I just put XP on it.

  • You will need drivers for the laptop if you haven't already installed, which laptop do you have?

If you restored it back to "factory settings" and it still had problems, then it may indicate a hardware problem and you should be going back to the supplier to have it checked under warranty - installing XP instead of Vista may make them argue about the cause though.
  • Did you make a note of the information on the blue screen?

Have you looked in Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer and looked through the logs?

Do you have any conflicts in Device Manager?

Right, I phoned Fujitsu Siemens as its under warranty, The sent me to there support page and I had to download a program called systemdiagnostics, burn the ISO to CD and boot from the CD into a dos based programme, I had to run the program and give them and error code, I ran the program, it check everything and took bloody 6 hours. At the end it did not find any errors, all is running fine apparantely, I went into the event log viewer and there is no errors in there, well the odd thing from chrome but it hasn't crashed at these times. Also as for the blue screen it comes on so quick and reboots you dont have time to read anything. So I'm none the wiser really
