It seems odd if the noise has suddenly materialised since you moved in. Has the LL never had these complaints before?
Apparently the guy did complain when the previous tenants were here, so it's not just us. I think he sees it as a bigger problem now though because my girlfriend sometimes works late shifts some weeks and i'm in a band so we both roll in pretty late some nights.0 -
The flat is carpeted but the carpet is pretty thin.
As I said earlier, i'm not sure what they're planning to do until i've spoken to them tomorrow.
I really think they're making a mountain out of a molehill though. I reckon they could put in a decent thick carpet and that'd be fine.
Also, Wickedkitten, you're right there. I think we need to know ourselves just how noisy it is downstairs so that we know whether it really is that awful.
Might be a nice result, you could end up with a luxurious shagpile to roll around on:beer:0 -
You could suggest that he gets in touch with the Envirobmental Health Department of your local council. I'm sure they have noise measuirng equipment which can provide an objective measure of how much noise he is experiencing.0

at least your LL is being helpful by agreed to meet. I'd ask at the meeting if you and LL son can be in downstairs flat when g/f walks round, or even do it in 2 shifts with different people walking and listening, also ensure you run the fan too.
I think the neighbours are being over reactive, but if simple measures like rugs or better carpet could make a big difference then its well worth investigating.0
