In india "tut tut" are called rickshaws - the meter will start at 1Rs and increment by 0.1; To save looking up the rickshaw rates, and to work out what to pay using the current rates:
multiply meter reading by 10 and take 1 off - if it says 1.6 then the actual rate is 16-1 =15Rs; if it says 4 then 40-1=39Rs - Easy!
From where you are staying - churchgate station is near - outside the station there is a guy who sells "vada pau" - indian spicy potato pattie burger with spicy sauces - you have to try these they are fab:
A little known fact - if you want to try authentic indian food without getting a gippy tummy - eat the food in railways cafeterias - by law it is fresh, they throw away stuff that is not sold. It is also very cheap - try "Idli sambar" a south indian rice patty in dhal - or "masala dhosa and sambar" - rice pancake with potato filling in dhal - always good to eat these south indian rice products in india - they are easy to digest, and almost always freshly cooked.
I would only recommnd going to the malls if you miss brent cross! - They are just like the british ones, all over priced, international pap! - the only good things about them are the excellent indian fast food courts, but you will have to go past big macs, and pizza expresses -
The best things to buy are books - esp latest best sellers, and latest IT teach yourself stuff - Most booksellers will pack and ship by sea for you - costs approx £10 for 5-6Kg - a lot of books!
A good tip when leaving - if your flight is early morning 1-2am departure - get to airport early 8:30/9 pm - check in early before the hordes; get your bording cards; leave airport and catch rickshaw to Juhu beach - walk along the sea front; eat; buy last minute presents; come back to airport around 12 - clear customs and come home, having spent an enjoyable relaxing last night. Most other passengers will come at 10; queue for 2 hours; get hot and bothered and irritated - you can then quitely smile as you go past them to your plane.
Enjoy!Nil illigitami carborundum... :A0 -
