Trading Standards deal with motor traders - contact the local office for advice.
You would certainly have comeback on the seller for a breakdown so soon after purchase.0 -
Having actually gone through the County Court with a similar situation I would advise you to ensure you give the Seller the opportunity to put right what is wrong.Ensure any correspondence you send is by Recorded Delivery. The seller must be given the opportunity to right the wrong.0

Would'nt it be nice to have had a closing text saying how the problem was solved.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Closing text would have been nice, but it has flagged up this point.I'd advise calling the CAB. They were really helpful to us last year when we had car problems. Unfortunately we had no comeback as we hadn't asked specific questions about the problems and the trader was under no obligation to tell us.
There are a couple of links here that might help. http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/your_world/consumer_affairs.htm
That information was incorrect at the time it was given in 2009 (although I accept that the legislation really only changed in late 2008, so shelly was likely correct in what she stated then).
The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 have created an offence for misleading omissions. Essentially this means that a trader must tell you about any issues they are aware of, or would reasonably be expected to be aware of prior to completing the contract. This includes any current damage to the vehicle, along with any previous damage or repairs they are aware of, if these would affect the decision of the purchaser to buy.0 -
