Advice re grants/beneftis for a child with a disability

Just after some advice for my friend really.
She is a single parent with a (nearly) one year old with CP.
Her boiler has recently broken and it is about £2000 for a new one which she can't afford so they have no heating.
She must surely be entitled to some help - but I don't know where to tell her to look.
Does anybody know what I can do to help them?
Thank you all.

Hi,
has your friend contacted 'contact a family' - they have factsheets on what to claim and help if your child has a disability. Your friend can also claim (depending on severity)for disability living allowance from 6 months, she may be entitled to carers allowance and increased tax credits. There is also the family fund which may help with a boiler. The council may help, depending on income and the councils own policy.
Do you have a local Scope branch. There are a few affiliated branches around which help with info and finances.

Presuming your friend is a lone parent in receipt of Income Support she could apply for a Community Care Grant from The Social Fund.
