OH Sacked from work

To cut a long story short:
OH had an accident at work, puts a claim in for the injuries received.
Returns to work 10 wks later told he must sign a form admitting liability for the accident.
OH refuses to sign the docment
Next morning he goes into work and is suspended for breaching health and safety ie not shutting a shutter door
Attends a disciplinary meeting a week later and is sacked
OH has put in an appeal and is due to attend his previous work place tomorrow.
OH has found out today that they are interviewing for his job(previous job) today?????
Any advice help much appreciated thanks, or if anyone knows about employment law that would be fantastic. Thanks in advance.

Was the accident book filled in with details of his accident? What was the nature of the accident - was it his fault or attributable to something that he did or didn't do?0

My OH was injured by a faulty piece of equipment (its called a dolly) the wheel jammed on it as it was used by my OH. But he was sacked basically after he would not sign the document they wanted him to sign, so they were just looking for excuses to sack him so picked him up on something else. But whilst he and his work colleagues were working with the shutter door down no one was injured and it wasnt really a health and safety issue.0

Sorry answer to your question yes he did fill in the accident book and the accident wasnt his fault.0

Speak to ACAS and to an Employment Law solicitor ASAP. They will do a free initial half hour - keep phoning until you find a firm that will.
Best of luck.0 -
Its the fact that he got his hopes up about the appeal tomorrow then he finds out they have been interviewing for his old job today. Plus I believe he should have had a warning at the most, not the sack.0

Hi
Why would he have a warning and not the sack...are you saying that it WAS his fault? If it was an error by the company, then he wouldn't have had either.0 -
I think I may have confused people, My OH had an accident at work just before xmas last year involving a faulty piece of work equipment ie a dolly (which is a big cage on wheels) He returned to work after having 10 weeks off due to his injuries sustained in the accident. He had his back to work meeting with his manager who asked him to sign a piece of paper admitting liability for the accident my OH said he was not happy to do this as he was not at fault. The manager thens says "oh well I dont know what the HR dept will say about that ,Ill have to get back to you. The next day my OH goes into work and is called into the office and is told he is suspended and it is being investigated on a health and safety issue. He is then called back into the office the following week to be told he has breached health and safety by not pulling the shutters up at work ( nothing to do with his previous accident) and is given the sack he has had no previous warnings and has a good work record. He has his appeal tomorrow but he has heard that people were being interviewed for his old job today. To be sacked for not pulling up a shutter is totally far fetched and unreasonable. The company had been using a certain procedure which is against health and safety guidance for years but last week told the staff not to do it anymore, so why could they have not just said to my OH could you make sure you pull up the shutters please.0

What im trying to say is that he was obviously sacked because he would not admit liability to the accident he had before xmas, so his employers have just picked up on something that has been common practice for 2 years. Just so they could sack him, because he has put a claim in against them0

So they told him what to do and a week later he didn't do it? I think they might have a point there.0
