Price of plasterboard

Hi all, can anybody guide me to a reasonable price to expect to pay for 12.5mm plasterboard ... i'll be buying a good bit cos every room needs done ... im in north east scotland so i'll probably be relying on national chains.

Any help is good help!
A banker is someone who lends you an umbrella when the sun is shining, and who asks for it back when it start to rain.

Probably just as well with the likes of B&Q, I'm in Aberdeen and I called around a few merchants when buying and it seemed to be six and two threes.

If near Aberdeen you could try Flemmings as their prices seem to change a bit from time to time
  • if you have a Platform in your area.
    I got it for about £3.75 a board 1200X2400.
It was about £1.00 cheaper then Wicks.
    I brought 40 boards.

If you are doing a major project it is often possible to open an account with a merchant such as Jewsons and negotiate a discount. On a large quantity it is always worth asking for a quantity discount, but you won't get one from places like B&Q. Delivery can also be free if spending over a certain amount.

£3.75 is a great price for plain plasterboard (plain for use on internal walls)

If you can get anywhere near £5.15 for Duplex (silver backed) thats a good price (Duplex boards are used for external walls)

£5.45 for moisture resistant boards (green boards) is a good price (use these in bathrooms (mainly around showers))

Cheaper to buy plasterboard in packs of 72

No one will expect you to buy 72 green boards

if possible screw your plasterboads instead of nailing (you wont then get any popping)

    screwfix do not supply plasterboard

I also advise screwing them and use a drywall adaptor too, just dont by the drywall screws from the likes of B and Q cause they are ludicrous.
  • Yep, definately use screws but don't do what a mate of mine did when he couldn't be bothered to screw them in and used a hammer instead...doh!
