I would agree with the comments made about Ancestry. I wonder if anyone can advise on a good site to search Parish Records? Find my Past seems to have such a limited selection. Thank you0

Ossy, join GR and Family Tree Forum for assistance - as people are often willing to do look ups locally or have specialist sources which they have bought.
Meanwhile, SOME parish records on familysearch.org - the mormon site - the extracted records are reasonably trustworthy, the submitted ones (by members) can be hysterically mad.
Google the surnames and areas you are interested in, you will often find information online.
There is freereg which is ongoing and looking for volunteers to help in the transcribing work. Its very good for Norfolk. For Norfolk also is the norfolk transcription archives site, there is Online Parish Clerks for various areas - google to find one for your particular area. And come on family tree forum and check out the WIKI which gives links to all sorts of resources.
All mentioned are free except for GR which requires a smallish membership fee.0 -
I have done the free trial, just remember to cancel in good time if not keeping it on,there are a lot of free sites to use,Tribal pages you can build your tree for free,Family search.org,free 1881 census and some parish records,Free BMD has registrations from sept 1837 up until roughly 1920 adding all the time,if you dont mind searching can also view all entries by going to view instead of search but is very laboriouse,1901 and 1911 census free to search but pay to view, find my past but you pay for this, just finished six month subscription well worth it and one of the best sites i have fpound to use is rootschat, this is just some of the resources available, been with genesreunited from the start, also a very good site, small yearly membership fee.

Franc, we started the site about 2 and half years ago now - to avoid a lot of the petty nastiness on some sites. The members are brilliant on there. If you need any help at all, just shout and there will be a number of people trying to guide you
Dont be put off by the large scale of the site, it is easy once you get used to it.

I think helping one another is a big part of the fun of this hobby - there are some real super sleuths on the research board there, they put me to shame. Also, check out the WIKI and the POW - Places of Worship board we are compiling - members take photos of churches/chapels etc and we can then print them on there free of any copyright issues. Of course members are very welcome to download the photos to their own tree programs to add insight to their ancestors details.0

I have used the 14 day free subscription to Ancestry.com 3 times now and never had a problem as long as you remember to cancel before your credit card is charged. Best to do it at a time you can commit to searching all the records you need to, or when you need to re-visit records in light of new information etc“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
