Try booking Hertz through the Ryanair website, it is cheaper then doing it direct. We always use Hertz when we fly to Girona and have found the Ryanair website the best for booking, pretty sure you don't have to be flying with them either. Have always found Hertz a great company and have never had any problems.

Hmm....don't know about Girona, but have just been checking prices for 2 weeks at Alicante.

Hertz (though Ryanair) want £268 for a Polo.

Argus (probably Auriga) quote £108 for a Fiesta.

The word rip-off comes to mind!
  • I did have problems with Hertz at Girona. Long story but they charged me for a scrape that was already on the car. Had to get our local radio station consumer programme to take it up with them as I was getting nowhere. Eventually got a refund but since then we take out annual insurance to cover such eventualities.

If it's for a short term, Holiday Autos are pretty good. £10 cashback from quidco. I have booked for 1 day, £21 for a Golf -£11:50 cashback = £9:50 for the day, with Full-Full fuel policy too. Obviously the more days the less per day the cashback works out.

If it is a short rental beware of Full-Empty fuel charges.
  • HERTZ usually expensive
AUTOEUROPE usually cheapest, cars often covered in scratches
Inspect fully before leaving & get car ok'd at drop off
Operate FULL to EMPTY fuel tank

We have been using Doyouspain for our last few visits. They are very cheap at present, and each time we have used them the car has been sourced through Record Car Hire.

A tip - for almost the same price as the smallest car you can get a Berlingo/Kangoo sized MPV, which we do every time. Never had any problems with this company, and have 2 bookings already for March.

Another tip - even after you book, check back to see if the price has dropped. This happened to us in December. You can then cancel without penalty and re-book. You don't pay anything until you collect the car.

  • I've used carjet from girona - they source vehicles at the best rate though local (large) companies. They have a uk contact number as well. https://www.carjet.com
