Do we have any Corgi qualified posters ?

I have a question re. a gas fire. It was fitted 10 maybe 15 years ago and its one of those real flame ones that also heats the rocks.

A GCH guy said that this particular type of unit is no longer legal as if the flame is blown out the gas will continue to flow.

It sort of makes sense as the only visible controller on it is a push n twist knob at the centre of the base, behind a movable brass cover.

So does this indeed need replacing or can some form of control valve be added ?

  • I am Corgi registered but I do not work on gas fires. He's referring to a flame supervision device of which there are various types. I would imagine that the supply to your gas fire is totally ungoverned if it does not incorporate such a device, as most governed appliances have incorporated them for many years, and it would be the lack of control that would be as great a factor as the lack of the supervision device, after all, many gas hobs don't have them and that isn't considered a problem. In the past I've disconnected ungoverned gas fires on the spot after explaining to the customer that they are not acceptable.

In answer to your question, you will not be able to modify the appliance unfortunately.
