Yeah Bristol, I know where you're coming from, however she just saw it as another month's pay as she wasn't having (and still isn't having) any joy on the job front. Besides, she had an appeal in progress and really loves working here for some reason. I think she was hoping her luck would change.

Doesn't look like there's much hope does there, no point relying on them to do the right thing.....grrr.

The crucial point here is that the girl is now outside you statutory notice period and is no longer entitled to the benefit of looking for alternative work as her contract of employment (she was dismissed from by way of redundancy) has ceased. She is now on a month's contract which I suspect has limited, if any, opportunity for leave, time off or sickness.

Whilst I entirely sympathise with the suggestion that she takes the time off regardless she may find that the company come after her for recompensing them for her absence or, at worst, for breach of contract. Don't lose sight of the fact that she is probably now, technically, classed as a contractor not an employee.
