Is Nicorette allowed on ebay?

My mum has just given me some Nicorette that she no longer needs. I don't smoke and was wondering if it's allowed on ebay? There is some listed but I don't want to get in any bother if it's banned. :o

You can always try and if it gets pulled then it gets pulled, cannot see it being against the rules as it can be purchased over the counter in the chemist and supermarket so surely it's ok

I listed the Nicorette and luckily it sold pretty quickly as Buy It Now. After it sold I recieved this email from ebay. It's odd as like slowen said, you can buy Nicorette over the counter and in many shops.

We appreciate that you chose eBay to list the following auction-style
    listing(s):

    Nicorette microtab. 2 x 30 tablets.

However, your auction-style listing(s) breaches eBay's Medical and Prescription
Items policy and has been removed. In accordance with our User Agreement, items
prohibited by law or by eBay policy are not allowed on eBay. We have credited
all associated fees to your account and notified eBay users associated with the
transaction that it has been cancelled.

eBay does not permit the listing of any controlled drug or item that requires a
prescription from a licenced practitioner (such as a doctor, dentist or
optician) to dispense; this includes drugs and devices prescribed by
    veterinarians for animals.

For more information on Medical and Prescription Items visit the following Help

That's strange as it is not a controlled drug with it being avaliable over the counter unless in America it is prescriptioned as this is the only thing I can think of

At least you sold it before Ebay took it off
  • It is age restricted as a nicotene product isn't it? Its the same rule that stops you selling cigarettes.
  • But you have to be 18 to sign up to eBay so this should not matter.
  • Its a drug all the same. Given in a high dose to a mild smoker could induce a few nasty side effects eg anxiety, insomnia. It can also cause sudden cardiac death in those with severe heart disease or have just had a heart attack. I would not risk it....

For some bizzare reason it seems ok to sell Nicotinell but not Nicorette!! I listed a pack of Nicorette patches in all innocence and got the same e mail as previously posted on this thread.

That prompted me to investigate and when I saw there was so much Nicotinell I sent message to e bay to query. I got a standard reply but I think the upshot was that some companies have taken up their right not to have their products on e bay (this is usually, I understand, used for designer products to deter fakes its called VERO or something) however it seems in this case Nicorette have all their products removed in the same way.

I re-listed selling as "known brand" on a shorter (3 day) auction and sold them no problem. The photo showed clearly what they were.

I wouldn't list anything dodgy but these were left over, shop bought - non Rx product, just something odd going on with brand name so i didn't feel bad listing them again.

I recieved this email from ebay this morning. It all comes down to pressure from a drug company. The explaination that they must be purchsed from a pharmacist is total rubbish as they sell them in my local Tesco Express, which is tiny, and my local sweet shop!

Anyway, it was good to at least get an answer from ebay that related to the question for a change!

Your item #566470****, entitled, "Nicorette microtab. 2 x 30 tablets,"
was ended because it was in violation of our Medical and Prescription
    Items- Pharmacy Licensed policy.

Pfizer, the manufacturer of all Nicorette items, contacted us to remove
all Nicorette products; including gum, inhaler, spray, and patches. They
informed us that the sale of Nicorette items on eBay violates the
Medicines Act 1968. Although most Nicotine replacement therapy products
are available over-the-counter, they must be purchased from a
pharmacist. Since this is not possible on the eBay platform, we cannot
allow the sale of such items. Please contact Pfizer for further details
    and explanations.
