The bit that troubles me about the figures (from the ONS source: link) is the following:The number of unemployed people increased by 146,000 over the quarter.....The redundancies level for the three months to December 2008 was 259,000,
So the majority of people that lost their job over the quarter were unwilling or unable to find a new job.
When you pair that with:There were 504,000 job vacancies in the three months to January 2009, down 76,000 over the previous quarter and down 179,000 over the year.
It looks like people losing their jobs is going to be a big problem as they can't get another job in many cases.0
