Abbey ISA

Hello,
I wondered if anybody could shed some light on an Abbey Direct ISA problem I have had today.
My ISA is linked to my current account on online banking, and never had any trouble until today when I noticed that the account was no longer in the online banking portfolio. I phoned them, but got no where. All that they told me was a cheque for the full amount was in the post.
Is there any reason why this would have happened? All I was given was the complaints number and an assurance that I would compensated if they closed it incorrectly.
It all seems very strange. I was only half way through my allowance and hadn't made any withdrawals. This is my only ISA and I have never had one opened before.
Many thanks,

Normally this only happens when you are in breach of there T&C. Perhaps the letter will give you the reason.
Of course it could be a mistake."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Thanks for your help! Turns out the branch forgot to ask for my NI number and under HM R&C conditions, they have to close it down if they don't receive it in 30 days.
They didn't contact me to get it - but hey that's life!0
