Got a bad feeling about this one - last had contact yesterday teatime when he said he would call me back last night with his insurance details - still no word - have told insurance company to go ahead and car gets assessed this Friday.0

Probably the best way forward in the circumstances.
My mum reversed into someone yesterday - so I have contacted her to see if we can pay for repairs rather than go through the insurance. She had a broken light and a smalll bump on the bumper. SHe is quite happy to do this, and depending on the quote, it should save my mums no claims bonus. But she is doing me the favour in getting me the quote so we have to agree or disagree with the quote. If I was getting mucked about by someone who was at fault I would let the insurance deal with it - you don't owe this guy anything. No Longer addicted to Boots! - Well not today anyway!! :blushing:

I had an incident over the Christmas period.
My young lad opened his car door and the wind took it from his grasp and it managed to dent the car parked next to us in a car park.
I exchanged details with the other driver and asked (as it was the smallest of dents ) not to go through my insurance but to settle cash.
He didnt have a problem with it - said that someone had just keyed his boot and was having a company out the following week to repair it.
Anyway few days later this 'person' contacted me and said that the repair to his car would be in excess of £220 plus vat.
My OH works in the motor industry and knows for a fact that a dent - with no damage to paint would be a minor repair and would cost approx £100 through any reputable car repair company.
Anyway, decided that we were being taken mick out of (possible that 'person' was going to get his rear end damage sorted and put on to my final bill ) I went through my insurance with £150 excess.
At least I know that the work that is done is solely for the damage that my lad has caused, not the 'person's ' previous damage.
BTW - I have just spoke to my insurance and have been told that the excess will not have to be paid by me as I am not claiming off my insurance (I also have protected no claims),as this is only the case if I were to make a claim too.
Does this seem correct ?
Cheers

I have had a similar incident, I had a van run into the rear of my car and the driver didnt have any insurance details. I was given a company card and told to ring the boss later in the day.
I rung up the boss on his mobile, he was out of the office so couldnt provide details and said he would ring back the next day with his insurance details. When he didnt ring the following day I reported it my insurance company.
I then rung the company and he again refused to give me his insurance details as he wanted to pay for the damage in cash. When I mentioned that I had reported it to my insurance he became very aggressive wanting to come to my home and inspect the vehicle and claiming that I was being difficult because I wouldnt get estimates for repairs and let him pay cash.
My opinion was if they dont ring you back what guarantee do you have if you get the repairs done they are going to pay up.
I got a courtesy car and the car fixed within two weeks and no hassle with the insurance company.0 -

Hi stressedoutmum, my brother went up the back of someone and didn't have insurance at the time (he was young and very stupid!) and the guy he hit got a solicitor to proceed things. As my brother didn't have insurance, the solicitor demanded over £1000 to pay his client even though there was very little damage to his car. They also told the police so he got points on his licence aswell.
If this guy still hasn't got insurance docs I would recommend you do the same. Get an estimate for the damage and see if you can cover it yourself rather than losing your no claims, then get a solicitor to send him the bill. I'd be inclined to mention it to the police too to take docs down to the station to prove he had insurance in the first place. Anyway, if they've got "15 years" NCB their insurer would probably reduce their NCB by 2 years. In the real world you don't get 15 yrs worth of discount on your insurance. Whoever their insured with would probably say they qualify for full no claims - meaning 5 or 6 years. So their NCB would be reduced to 3 or 4 years - so they'd still get a discount on their renewal.
Hope it all works out for you anyway!0
