I bet you just love shopping for your MIL.

I've no idea how old she is but here's a few ideas.

A book or a magazine subscription or a nice book mark.

Handkerchief - my mum loves a nice cotton one and says it looks much nicer to get one of those out of your bag rather than a tissue. Looks nice when it's clean.

Photo frame with photo in it.

Stationery - Notepaper or notecards or a nice pen.

A voucher to spend time with son, going out for luch, coffe or a walk or trip to the garden centre, the options are endless.

I'm trying to think of things that aren't too expensive as I think of Mother's Day being chocolates and flowers and think sometimes people go over the top. I'm happy with a buch of daffodils and lots of love from my DD's.

I'll keep thinking about this one.

She would not like the idea of a voucher to spend time with her son lol

I hate buying for her. Photo frames out of the question as she doesnt put them up. We made her a lovely handmade photo album and put loads of pics of dd in it last xmas only to find it shoved in her bottom draw covered in paperwork!

She doesnt use stationery, doesnt write probably cos shes no friends lol

She has a box of over 50 books from the charity shop working her way through as thats all she ever does is read.

Thanks for the ideas and if you think of anything else please let me know lol

Out of her 3 sons dh is the only one who every buys her mothers day, bday and xmas pressies. Yet for the past 2 bdays of his shes not got him a thing!

  • She seems to not put much emphasis on presents so maybe I'd try making a donation to a charity on her behalf. At least then she knows that you thought of her on her birthday but decided to give the money to someone who really needs it?

You said she buys books from charity shops so I'd donate to one of those.

How about one of these charity gifts... http://www.oxfam.org.uk/shop/content/unwrapped/5to20.html

Dedicate a tree? You can now do this using Clubcard vouchers.

Does she drink tea or coffee? You could make up a small basket with tea/coffee, some biscuits, a cup or mug, a coaster maybe?
 If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain
  • I agree with rainmac a nice mug and some tea or coffee with a nice card. Sounds like she is really awkward to buy for, but since she doesnt send anything back. Maybe she would just be happy with a card ? Thats what my MIL is having this year.. Everything we have tried to give her she never uses. So after some 18 years of trying.... I have given up. Dear H gave up years ago ;)
furrypig says:my name is Choccy and I am addicted to nose free stamps as I want to save them all and give them noses!!!:rotfl:
About me. Im Choccy or Chocolate orange depending on where i am.Yes occasionally i am a total looon who spends too long online, but no where near as much £ as her spendy elves do ..:D
  • Does she like going out for meals or have takeaways, you could buy her a voucher for a meal or even take her out for a meal (not on mothers day though cos is really expensive) been there done that they charge you lots more cos its mothers day. Does she have a garden you could buy her some seeds or a plant. What about a little tea set with a nice cup, tea and biscuits.

I gave my mum a voucher to have her hair done for last years Mothers day pressie along with some hair care things, my mil i have her a gardening hamper with a subscription to garden mag (using tescos vouchers)

Failling that what about just making her a nice home made card.

I might just buy her a teddy,dh saw one in the £ shop with mum on a heart it was holding. She does display teddies in her room so might get her that lol. Ok a bit cheap but we are budgeting this year and I dont see the point in spending loads on someone who wont appreciate it anyway.

Teddy sounds like a good idea em, al least she will use it. They say it's the thought that counts, well you're certainly putting lots of thought in. My MIL is a bit the same, we won't be buying her anything as she lives about 70 miles away and I can't afford to get flowers delivered and she is forever giving things away that you buy her or they sit on the side unused for years. Will send a nice card and get DH to give her a call on the day.
  • She sounds even worse than my MIL lol

How about a bottle of wine?

I like the sound of the tea/biscuits/cup too tho

Its so annoying when you rack your brains for ideas and put lots of thought into gifts and dont receive it in return!!! My MIL buys whatever she can from Asda for everyone!
