Way too High Electricity and Gas Bill
I moved to E-ON from EDF at the end of Nov 2008.
I just got my first quarterly bill from them, I had been paying £50 per month direct debit from Dec.
Anyway the bill was for £418(£318 if including what I had paid for both)
This is from end of Nov to end of Jan. So basically two months.
I called them up and have checked the meter readings and they match, they told me they measure in cubic feet, I had my boiler serviced about a year ago and it is no more than 5 years old.
I have the boiler come on timer and not for long, so the house is rarely even warm because of this. Using the same amount of electricity as usual, nothing changed there.
I know the prices for gas and electric have gone up, but my quarterly bill is usually £250ish, never this much even at this time of year.
I expected to owe something but not this much.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be wrong or what I could do?

No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

I would expect your heating useage to have at least doubled from last year. (Mine is four times greater.) It is colder. The price of gas has also increased by 55%. Taking the price rise into account, your useage is only one-third higher than last winter.
Also, if most of your bill is gas and you have a modest useage of electricity, E-on has a very expensive standing charge (£12 per month).
Also, you say 'usually £250ish, never this much even at this time of year'. So from my reading that suggests your usual winter bill is more than £250? As I started off saying, we haven't had a usual winter (a cold one) for many years.
(I trust your meter, not just your supplier, says it is measuring in cubic feet?)0 -
