Hi all,
I've just been given a quote for a bathroom refurb, and was wondering what those more knowledgeable in the field might think of it, and if they'd be so kind as to let me know their opinions.
Bathroom dimensions:
280 length
140 width
250 height
The work quoted for is as follows:
Refurbishment of bathroom to include:
• Strip out of a toilet, basin and cabinet, cistern, fixtures and fittings.
• Rerouting of pipework as necessary.
• Cleaning and re-fixing of bath and fitting of new taps.
• Fitting new basin, toilet and cistern.
• Design and build enclosure for cistern to allow access for maintenance. (It's in an alcove.)
• Fitting and plumbing new shower (into wall above bath) with exiting pump.
• Preparation of all surfaces to take new tiles. (Builder intends to tile over existing tiles, which are solid and in good nick.)
• Temporary removal of heated towel radiator.
• Wall tiling and grouting to all walls.
• Installation of Amtico flooring and sub-floor timber sheeting.
• Waste removal and disposal.
Total: £3780
Builder will supply:
• 'All construction materials to be supplied, timber, sheet materials, adhesives, sealants, pipes etc with the exception of internal fixtures and fittings, bathroom suite, tiles, door furniture etc.'
As you can see above, we're keeping the bath, cos it's not in too bad nick and he will clean it up, but we'll have to supply new shower bits, a new basin and a new toilet. Unsure if he's supplying the Amtico flooring.
The builder reckons it'll be done in a week.
Does this sound pricey to anyone? We are in North-West London, if that makes a difference.
Would appreciate anyone's help...

To be honest, for the amount of work being done the price sounds ok. However, if he's said it will take only a week, I'm not convinced it will be a good job. Tiling on tiles should only be done when necessary. Personally, I always go the route of removing the old tiles. Just to tile a bathroom properly can take a couple of days, let alone the other work.

Funny enough I had a similar quote for the same size bathroom in NW london
however it included a few extras like stripping tiles, making the walls good for tiling, thermal insulation in floor board, underfloor heating...
I would say your being a little over charged.....
I still think my quote is a bit steep at £3300 + vat
I would have thought 2-2,5k would be more reasonabile0 -
Thanks very much for your help, Biggie and Chippy.
If anyone else who has any informed thoughts on the work, I’d be most grateful to hear from you.
