utility bills
We have just received our online electricity bill and am speechless because when they increased the charges they didn't think to increase our ddr and now we owe them loads and they are going to put our ddr up over 200%. I'm sure lots of people are going to have this now and I feel really sorry for the elderly and those on low incomes who won't be able to afford to pay. Oh and i didn't realise that we are on a 6 monthly charging system. I'm so cross!!!!!

You need to read your meters and keep a check on how much you're using to avoid this.
Is your latest statement based on actual readings?0 -
6-monthly charging system? Do you mean it gets checked every 6 months or you only get a statement every 6 months?
As Magentasue suggested, make sure it's actual readings and not estimated readings as these could be well out. Also, make sure you're on the cheapest tariff you can be with the cheapest supplier (if you're on a fixed tariff be careful about cancellation fees, and consider whether you thing prices will go up again before your fixed tariff expires - don't want to get hit twice!).
Another thing - do you have any debt on the account? This may push your payments up. You could always pay said debt off and see if that lowers the payments.
Hope that helps!0
