Hiring Labourers

Is it possible to directly hire labourers to work for you on a renovation? We are currently at the /heavy/messy/boring stage of digging out earth floors and knocking off old plaster. Its very difficult and tiring to do and on top of a weeks work and toddler its proving almost impossible for us to get it done.
I dont' want to go into the full schedule of works, please just take my work for it that the next stages are covered by variuos trades and ourselves, we are competent at carrying out skilled building work and there isn't anyway we can easily get the subcontracted trades to do the digging at this point!
what we really need right now isn't a skilled plumber, or brilliant builder, we just want two strong backs and pairs of hands to get all the rubble/plaster out of the way so we can get on with the next stuff. Its probably about 3 days work for two strong people. (more like 6 days for DH plus me with a toddler underfoot!)
Any ideas?

go to any irish pub or a building site, and just ask if anyone wants a few days work for 80/100 quid per day.
