Dont even consider it.0 -
Is your deposit protected?0

My deposit is in a protection scheme yes (it's being held by another company, not the landlord or letting agent) - however having never rented before now I wasn't sure how safe it really is.
Thanks everyone

Doubt it, sounds like your LL will just move on to the next thing to harrass you about...
Sounds awful

how can one gas meter service two seperate properties? sounds like he's done a bodge job conversion to me, if you are renting a completely separate property, it should have its own gas supply shouldnt it??0
-
He has just separated off a section of his house with an additional wall - but the property is council taxed so the council must consider it a separate property. Obviously with one meter though, there is no way to work out who used what! It's so frustrating!!!0

They will never give you peace. They are clearly mad and not suited for being a landlord.
As others have said check with the local housing private rented team for assistance in stopping them harrassing you.
Keep all the letters - get a folder and those plastic wallets to keep them in date order if possible ... when you've moved you can publish them maybe LOL ...

The LL *cannot* increase your rent with the initial Fixed Term.
This level of pressure from a LL is not acceptable, and the LL should be made aware that tenant harassment is a criminal offence. As a couple of the others have said, the local Council has a team who deal solely with private rentals so make an appointment to see them as a matter of urgency. They can help you with this, including talking direct to the LL if necessary.
Also talk to someone at Shelter 0808 800 4444 (7 days, 8-8)0 -
You can read up on the tenancy deposit schemes here - your LL should have given you your scheme's "prescribed information" within 14 days of you paying your deposit to him.help_a_tennant_in_need wrote: »My deposit is in a protection scheme yes (it's being held by another company, not the landlord or letting agent) - however having never rented before now I wasn't sure how safe it really is.0 -
Hi, I am a landlord, your landlord sounds like a complete loony, don't pay for peace of mind, if you do what'll be next?
You need to plan to leave at the end of your contract, in the meantime you need to stand up to him, assertively (but not aggressively) and make sure you keep all those letters and start keeping a diary of events so if you have to resort to adjudication to get your deposit back you can easily demonstrate that he has been acting unreasonably.0
